Halloween is just around the corner which means time is running out to buy costumes and candy, and to do fun things like carve pumpkins. It also means that Trick or Treat is upon us. Many kids enjoy going from house to house, showing off their costumes and collecting candy!
Did you know that you can easily incorporate counting into the fun of the night? Get your kiddos counting by encouraging them to tally things up throughout the night!
Here are a few ideas of things to count as a family:
Jack-o-lanterns
Pumpkins
Inflatable yard decorations
Colored lights
Specific costumes i.e. superheroes, animals, monsters etc.
Specific kinds of treats
A little friendly competition is always fun too! Challenge friends to see who can find the most of a certain item. If you search for a while, who knows how many new numbers your child can learn with you!
Counting with your children may seem like such a small thing to do but, it shows them that you have an interest in learning and discovery too. Literacy starts at home and literacy starts with you.
